“One last time.”

He’s had the role for 15 years, but a recent instagram has suggested the unthinkable. Hugh Jackman may be hanging up Wolverine’s claws when he’s done in the James Mangold-directed threequel.

Adding a photo to his Instagram account of one hand popping those iconic claws, the actor added the surprising comment of ‘one last time’.   This was then later followed up by director James Mangold commenting on his excitement for getting stuck into production for Wolverine 3, which is set for release 2017.

Admittedly, there’s no confirmation on where exactly the film will follow on from, considering that the events in Days of Future Past will have wiped the slate clean, including elements of The Wolverine. There’s also rumours a rumbling he’ll be making a cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse which will start shooting in a month, and will also mark the final appearance of Nicolas Hoult as Beast and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. No more mutants, indeed.

Of course, the obvious question to ask here is who would brave the role that Jackman has made his own? But should we be so hasty? Let’s keep in mind that Channing Tatum is set to take on the role of Gambit (who may also appear in Apocalypse), and Ryan Reynolds is now hard at work bringing Deadpool to life (again). Could the X-universe carry on with either of these two actors on the frontline? Give your thoughts on that, and Jackman’s potential departure from the world of Wolverine below.
