Remember when you broke the two hour mark of Transformers: Age of Extinction and with ears bleeding and brains bludgeoned by shiny bits of metal thought, “boy, I sure could go for a few more rounds of this”? Well Hasbro and Paramount in all their ingenious splendour have answered your wishes, following news that they plan to see the Transformers continue to blow up cinema screens for the next decade. Hurrah!
The news broke out thanks to Hasbro president Stephen J. Davis who gave the details on his
diabolical scheme plan for more Transformers titles describing the recent mapping of their universe as ‘just an incredible experience’.
We decided that we wanted to plot out the next 10 years of the Transformers franchise, so we got together in a room over a three-month period of time. Nine of some of the most creative writers I have ever worked with, shepherded by Akiva Goldsman, who many of you may know won an Academy Award for A Beautiful Mind and written a bunch of great movies. And they plotted out the next 10 years of Transformers. Similarly, we are doing the same in television and in digital. So stay tuned, Transformers 5 is on its way, and 6 and 7 and 8.”
Oh if you’re going to do something, do it right Mr. Davis, surely? Why only 8? 10 is such a nice big number and by then our eyes will be so destroyed by the pointy bits of Cybertronian metal being thrown at other opposing bits we’ll simply let it continue. Then it’ll finally happen, the biggest franchise that ever was and will be, will be one based simply on a five-year old ramming over-expensive action figures into another on Christmas morning.
And who are the clever heads behind this operation? Well, there’s Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk); Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead); Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down); Steven DeKnight (Netflix’s Daredevil); Jeff Pinkner (Lost); Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Lindsay Beer, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. All of these guys and gals are hard at work scribbling down stories that will focus on Optimus Prime and co. transforming on and off our planet.
For now we can only wonder what they’ve got planned but Transformers 5 is set to arrive sometime in 2017. Prepare yourself, people.
