Refusing to let old films stay all on their own, the powers that be have decided to have another go at Logan’s Run this time with X-Men and Fantastic Four scribe, Simon Kinberg writing up a new draft as well as producing. Admittedly, he’s not the first to have a go, with Nicolas Winding Refn eyeing the project with Ryan Gosling in the lead, but nothing ever materialised. Following their failed attempt, other writers varying from Alex Garland (Ex-Machina) and Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) tried to take a stab at the project and suffered the same result.
For those that aren’t familiar with the sexually charged sci-fi classic, Logan’s Run starred Michael York, Jenny Agutter and Farrah Fawcett and was based on the 1967 book of the same name. Set in a futuristic world, society is ticking over perfectly thanks to people being put to death when they turn 30. Any that try and beat the system are forced to go on the run, with a small special group of hunters known as Sandmen hot on their heels. York played the titular gent, a Sandman who is forced to defy the rules he swore to uphold becomes determined to blow the candles out on his 31st birthday cake.
There are no other names attached to the project just yet and considering the projects troubled history, you might want to hold your breath. Who knows though? Twenty-billionth time might indeed be a charm and we could see Logan run again after all.
