It’s mutant Monday today, gifted boys and girls as the brand new trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past has stormed online, showing just what will happen when two timelines will collide with one another in an all out epic summer blockbuster. If you really weren’t sold on a cast spanning six films over 14 years, this has to do it.

Beginning in a future that has left mutant kind scattered and on the verge of extinction, two foes that were once friends unite to change the past and stop their living nightmare before its begun. Through mutant means, Xavier and Magneto send Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back a matter of years after their first encounter, with Charles bitter and beaten and the master of magnetism beginning his war on the human race. It’s this time that also sees a Mr. Bolivar Trask (Game of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage) start the Sentinel program; an army of robots that become ever more advanced and may be the deadly weapon that wipe out all mutants in our time forever.

There’s a lot on show here that we haven’t seen before. There’s a rather narked looking young Xavier (James McAvoy) letting off some steam with his old friend, Erik (Michael Fassbender) and a truck load of action in the future. Particular highlights are Colossus standing tall against an advanced Sentinel as well as Bishop (Omar Sy getting phased out by Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page). In a nutshell, stuff is most certainly going to kick off.

X-Men: Days of Future Past stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Halley Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Boo Boo Stewart, Adan Canto, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, Lucas Till, Evan Jonigkeit. It’ll claw its way into cinemas May 22.
