Time travel, robots and enough mutants to fill a mansion-based school for the gifted. There’s really nothing to dislike about the brand trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past other than it reminds us the film hasn’t arrived yet. Chocked full of unseen footage, it also adds a lot of questions to where and how every one of our mutant chums is doing from both of the past (which is our present?) and the future.

Based on the story arc of the same name, Days of Future Past sees our favourite hairy-faced, claw wielding Wolverine sent back in time to change the past and stop an army of mutant-hunting robots created by Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage). Arriving from a future that sees mutantkind all but extinct, Logan must reunite Xavier and Magneto after their little fall out in Cuba and hopefully put an end to the war before its begun.

Director Bryan Singer’s return to the franchise he’s helped build looks immense in the new preview, focussing less on the sombre tone we saw in the last trailer and instead displaying just how much bang we’re going to get for our buck. There’s also a few chuckles thrown in for good measure with everyone punching everyone and Logan breaking the not so nice news to Hank McCoy about his potential future should their mission go tits up. Chin up, eh Beast?

X-Men: Days of Future Past stars Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and will be blowing cinema screens away 23 May.
