Is there life on Mars? Matt Damon has the answer.

Matt Damon and outer space clearly don’t mix. After causing a spot of bother in Interstellar, he’s now set for a one way trip to the red planet in Ridley Scott’s The Martian, which has just released some brand new images via Empire, EW and People.

Based on the book of the same name by Andy Weir, the film sees Damon as brave astronaut Mark Watney, who is the first to touch down on Mars. He and his crew soon run in to a spot of bother though, when Watney is separated from the group and thought to be dead. The good news is he isn’t. The bad news is that he’s now alone on an alien planet, battling to survive with only his willpower and a very limited oxygen supply. Houston, we have a great big problem.

There was a time when Ridley Scott returning to sci-fi would get fans excited, then the divisive Prometheus landed, making a foundation for a slew of unsatisfactory films thereafter. Sir Ridders needs to deliver something good and with a cast behind Damon consisting of Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Sebastian Stan, Kate Mara, Kristen Wiig, Donald Glover, Sean Bean (please don’t die), Mackenzie Davis, and Michael Pena, The Martian could be it. Judge for yourself when the film makes contact November 25.
