As great as the box-office is looking this year, there’s a slightly worrying element over the majority of the big entries aren’t too original either. Still, there’s hope. Amidst Jurassic World, Avengers and that Star Wars film further down the line, one big draw is Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie, a stunning looking Short Circuit by way of District 9.
Looking to have that same broken but beautiful futuristic look Blomkamp has become accustomed to, his next feature sees him reuniting with Sharlto Copley who takes the role of the titular hero. One of many policing robots in the near future, Chappie is nabbed by a young tech whiz (Dev Patel) who reprograms the him to think and feel for himself. This advance in advanced technology soon spells trouble for the renegade robot and his friends though, when the government get wind of his new update and set about trying to shut down Chappie for good.
Joining in the wired wonders of the upcoming sci-fi are South African rappers Ninja and ¥o-Landi Vi$$er, as well as Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman. You can see them all when Chappie arrives March 6.
