It’s been some time since a Johnny Depp-starring film made us sit up with interest and excitement, but at long last here we are again with his upcoming crime thriller, Black Mass. Everything that’s been released so far has us excited to see the outcome, even with a brand new ice-cool one-sheet below.
Based on a true story, the film tells the story of lethal Boston gangster Whitey Bulger (Depp) who after a life of crime filled with dead bodies, Bulger cut a deal with necessary lawmen to let the criminal underworld lean his way. With a crooked FBI man helping out (Joel Edgerton), it slowly started to go that way – until the CIA got involved and Bulger was forced to do a runner.
Set your pistol in any direction and you’re probably going to hit a top-class screen presence considering the cast involved (even though Depp took it a tad too seriously by the looks of things). As well as Egerton joining the films leading man, there’s also appearances from Kevin Bacon, Peter Sarsgaard, Dakota Johnson, Jesse Plemons (the one Ross won’t shut up about in the podcast), and Benedict Cumberbatch. The last lad on that list will have a fairly meaty role as well, playing none other than Whitey’s younger brother, Senator William Bulger who also was implicated in all the corruption.
You can see how much he was connected when Black Mass spreads across cinemas in the U.K. November 13 after hitting the U.S. September 18. Or you know, there’s always Wikipedia.
