In between the fireworks, explosions and upturned vehicles rolling around in the creative genius of director George Miller, somehow there’s space in between it all for a planned Mad Max sequel. It was announced a while back that Tom Hardy had already put his name down to take to the road as Max three times, including his break taking debut in Fury Road, and now after a recent Q&A we know Act 2 is on the way as well.
Speaking to Jeff Goldsmith, Miller announced that the second instalment to the newly revived film series has the working title of Mad Max: The Wasteland. Truth be told, it’s quite a broad subtitle considering the desolate post-apocalyptic world we’ll be returning to, but then not once did I see a sign directing to Fury Road, so anything goes really.
What’s even more exciting is that the sequel already has a screenplay prepped and penned, just waiting for Miller to bring it to life. When that will be we don’t quite know. The director of the recent destruct-o-fest did go on to say that the third film will in fact be a novella of sorts, mainly down to the utter ball ache that Fury Road was and the whopping schedule it took up.
In truth though, Miller can call the film whatever the hell he likes. There could be an announcement for Mad Max: MOT Test and I’d throw money at the nearest ticket booth willing to take it. Appreciate that Mr. Miller has come back with a bang, and he won’t be leaving any time soon.
