The rumours aren’t rumours anymore, kids. The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed that Billy Dee Williams will be back to put a stint in as the coolest cape wearer in the galaxy, reprising his role of Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode IX – The Something Or Other.
As you can imagine, though may well be disappointed by, details about what capacity the former Administrator of Cloud City will play in the next instalment of the core Star Wars saga are absolutely zilch. Chances are he’ll be filling in the senior superior role to watch over these young blooded heroes, after the passing of Han Solo and (one would assume) the eventual passing of Admiral Leia with Carrie Fisher no longer being with us and the world still that bit dimmer because of it.
This will mark the fourth occasion we’ve seen Lando back in the canon following his original appearances in The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and most recently in a younger capacity, courtesy of Donald Glover, in Solo: A Star Wars Story. It’ll be interesting to see if any specific plot details from the recent and previously unknown chapter of the Star Wars universe will make it into Episode IX.
Billy Dee Williams marks another new addition to the upcoming sequel after the news that Keri Russell has signed up to go into hyperspace in a currently unknown capacity. Naturally, even though it did absolutely no favours for fans following the release of The Last Jedi, theories are already being spun around the interwebs about what character she’s linked to. They’ll be joining Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac when the fun begins again December 20, 2019.
Expect more names to fall into the franchise hat in due course but for now, what part do you think Lando will play in Episode IX. Will he be friend or foe to our heroes, given his history of switching sides? Answers on a postcard, or in the comment section below.L
