Prepare for punishment.

Marvel’s success rate of casting choices continues to go unscathed with news that The Walking Dead and Fury star Jon Bernthal is stepping in as The Punisher in the next season of Daredevil. In truth, the world would have probably killed to see Tom Hardy take up the mantle, but this choice isn’t bad at all.

For those that don’t know, The Punisher aka Frank Castle is a well-known vigilante and one-man army in the Marvel Universe. Sent on a mission of vengeance after his family are killed, Castle uses an impressive arsenal and brutal tactics to make sure Hell’s Kitchen doesn’t boil over. He’s emotionally unhinged and has a very itchy trigger finger, something that Bernthal can do standing on his head if you look at his stint in AMC’s zombie show and tank-tastic war film.

Speaking about the new signing, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb said…

“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences. Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

Bernthal will be joining an already impressive cast of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil and Vincent D’Onoforio as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. For the time being there’s no further confirmation on if The Punisher will be firing further afield than Daredevil, and perhaps appearing in the Luke Cage and Jessica Jones spin-off shows but for now let’s be happy that Frank is where he belong with a studio that know just how to handle him. The earlier efforts really were punishment enough.

What do you think of Bernthal as The Punisher? Is he the man for the job, or would you have someone else in mind? Sound off in the comments below.
