The Dude reveals he was supposed to survive Iron Man.

As clever and carefully tied together the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be, there are some frayed edges here and there when it comes to villains. Besides Tom Hiddleston’s Loki who is loved by all, there aren’t that big bads that have left a mark on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes like the god of mischief (maybe Ultron could change all that). One that did come close was Jeff Bridges frenemy Obadiah Stane aka Iron Monger aka Jeff Bridges. Last seen chilling out at the end of Iron Man, it seemed pretty clear that Stane was down and out for good, but then this is a comic book universe after all, something that even The Dude himself is keeping in mind.

Speaking to IGN during some Seventh Son chit-chat, Bridges revealed that originally the plan wasn’t to eradicate the Iron Monger at all, but rather a classic ‘blast, he got away’ situation.

“When I was hired on, it was scripted that Obadiah would live, that when they opened his Iron Monger suit…he was not in it. Then, they decided to kill my ass off. Telling me ‘it’s a comic-fantasy, so who knows, your character could come back.’ I guess we’ll see…”

It would be a surprise if Bridges got back on board but considering that there is no sign of another Stark solo gig in Marvel’s schedule, chances are pretty slim. The billionaire playboy philanthropist has enough on his plate already this year what with Avengers: Age of Ultron, anyway. One superhero blockbuster at a time, eh? As for Jeff Bridges, you can see him dabbling in sorcery and CGI in Seventh Son which arrives in US cinemas this weekend and UK cinemas March 27.

What do you think though? Would you like to see Stane return from the not-so-dead? Or is there another villain you’d like to see go another round against Stark? Sound off in the comments below.
