As soon as the announcement was made that brave Monsters director, Gareth Edwards was attempting to tackle what was quite literally, Japan’s biggest export there was both a sigh of relief and a gasp of excitement at the possibilities. Now we finally get a look at what the British director has in store and so far it consists of massive cities being stomped into rubble fit for a garden features as some top-class actors look on helplessly. This film can’t come quick enough.
Opening with a speech from David Strathairn (who simply by appearing in this film, shows that we’re going to see some serious shit), a brave band of paratroopers leap out of a plane into a fog of uncertainty. Accompanied by Gyorgy Ligeti’s haunting piece from 2001: A Space Oddysey (honestly, the balls on this Edwards guy) between the flames and fumes a mysterious but strangely familiar figure comes into view. From here on out its carnage filled clips a plenty. En-flippin-joy!
Speaking to USA Today, Edwards described that his aim for his take on Gojira was to create “a force of nature, like the wrath of God or vengeance for the way we’ve behaved. I want it to be epic. I want to get the hairs on the back of your neck up.” See if he gets the job done when Godzilla arrives in cinemas May 16 next year. Also, if you really fancy it check out some brand new stills from the film below as well.
