Gerard Butler is owed a good film by now, surely? After brain-departing weather fluff, Geostorm, and CGI-clagnut Gods of Egypt, Den of Thieves could get him back on track. Backed by the likes of O’Shea Jackson (Straight Outta Compton) and Pablo Schreiber (The Wire, Orange is the New Black, American Gods), this heavy-handed heist film looks to be leaning back on the road to Olympus and London Has Fallen levels. Makes sense given that it’s directed by the man who wrote the latter.
Wetting his feet in the bullet-riddled pool of Den of Thieves, Christian Gudegast is swapping the keyboard for the directors megaphone as he politely asks Butler to play the hero without getting snarled at by the gruff Scot. The film will see our former 300 star leading the pack as the head of an elite unit on the hunt for some high-level bank robbers who fancy pinching money from the Federal Reserve Bank.
Schreiber is taking charge on the other side of the law and honestly, looks like he might be getting his big break with this one. If you’ve seen him in any of earlier work (particularly The Wire and American Gods), you’ll know he’s a capable lad. O’Shea Jackson also appears to be working both teams, whilst Mr. Cent adds in his standard two pennies. Don’t care how bad that sounded, I’m not taking it back.
Den of Thieves will be opening up its doors on February 2nd, 2018. See if it tickles your fancy via the trailer below.
