xXx III confirmed.

After turning one of his franchises into one of the biggest in cinema history thanks to Fast 7 last year, cement-chewing chrome dome-wielding legend Vin Diesel is now setting his sights on his other forgotten hero, Xander Cage aka xXx. Discussed for some time, Diesel has revealed to io9 that he’s found a director to take on the triple threatening action hero and it comes in the form of Disturbia and Eagle Eye director, D.J. Caruso.

Some of you may be scratching your heads over the task at hand, considering that the last time we saw the extreme sport star turned super spy, he was a flap of C4-singed skin on the tarmac before Ice Cube took things to xXx: The Next Level. Well, here’s where you forgot the most important thing – it’s a Vin Diesel film? Nothing needs to be explained at all. Whatsoever. So stop thinking about it!

Speaking to the site, Diesel explained outright, “D.J. Caruso is directing it, which is exciting. xXx is one of those films you do when you need to have a little fun.” See, Vin gets it.  He added, “when the weight and pressures of all the other things have gone so far that you need to have a character that you can just have fun and more comment on life and comment on the outcome than being in it like Fast’s Dom Toretto Dom is very much the centre of the storm, Xander is more the guide to something else and you’re just with him.”

When exactly we will be with him has yet to be confirmed but with a director on board, it’s safe to say that things are most definitely happening, but there are other things in the Diesel line that need to be tended to first. Not only will we have him slaying ugly looking hags (I assume) in The Last Witch Hunter out this month, there’s also Fast and Furious 8 getting revved up with the help of Straight Outta Compton director, Gary F. Gray. Somewhere along the line, he’ll also have to stretch his vocal chords as Groot and maybe silence them if recent stirs at Marvel are anything to go by. Watch this space.
