Even though that recently discovered Boba Fett film is struggling to jump to light speed following the departure of director Josh Trank, that isn’t stopping Rogue One from sticking to its attack plan and nabbing itself another cast member. After already gaining the impressive talent of the Oscar-nominated Felicity Jones and supporting Nightcrawler Riz Ahmed, Variety have revealed that Elysium and The Terminal star, Diego Luna is now jumped aboard along with the previously rumoured Ben Mendelsohn.
The trade says that Luna (who sounds like he belongs in Star Wars with a name like that), will be part of the rebel team who undertake the dangerous mission of pinching the Death Star plans. This means that Rogue One will in fact be sandwiched between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope rather than further up the timeline nearer to the impending Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
As for Mendelsohn, his name has finally been set in stone after the rumours started up shortly after his sterling appearance in the Netflix series, Bloodline. Currently the only detail they have is that he’ll be the villain of the piece. A shame really, as it would’ve been nice to see him getting brave in the cockpit of an X-Wing. Ah well.
Either way, there’s no denying that the cast involved are as a dark Sith Lord would say, ‘impressive’ and it’ll be great to see the remaining thesps handle what will certainly be a do-and-die mission. It’s a long way off though, and for now we can only wait for The Force Awakens to arrive this year, before Rogue One flies up behind it December 16, 2016.
