Comedy folk scaring the snot out of us is starting to become a growing trend that audiences are a fan of. John Krasinski did alright with A Quiet Place (which he’s set to return to), Jordan Peele is on a winning streak if the response for Us is anything to go by, and now Dave Franco has taken out a Rental, which he co-wrote and is now set to direct.
News from Deadline reveals that The Disaster Artist star is parking himself down behind the camera, after finishing up the script that he co-wrote with Joe Swanberg (Drinking Buddies) and already has two cast members to call the shots for.
His wife and Glow star Alison Brie has put her name down for the gig, alongside Legion and The Guest’s Dan Stevens. The film will focus on ‘two couples who rent a vacation home for what should be a celebratory getaway’. Of course, ‘should’ is such an iffy word to use in horror films, like ‘safe’ or ‘dead’.
It’s an exciting route for Franco to take but one that is undoubtedly going to get some interest. Could this be the beginning of him finding his way in frightening audiences, or is this a daring step in one of many genres he has his eye on? Filming is predicted to get going in April, so we’ll have to wait and see for when Rental finally opens up.
