Good things really do come in two’s especially over at the Marvel Base of Brilliant Casting Choices (it’s on Google Maps somewhere, gotta be). In a matter of days and one podcast after Jon Bernthal was announced as The Punisher in Netflix’s Daredevil, now the news is out of a familiar face joining upcoming film Doctor Strange, and it’s his 12 Years A Slave c0-star Chiwetel Ejiofor.
News from Deadline reveals that the Oscar-nominated star will be butting heads with Cumberbatch’s Steven Strange in the Scott Derrickson’s film as Baron Mordo, a master of the mystic arts who sits on the bad guy bench. For those that don’t know, Mordo was also a pupil to Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One before he got a bit too big for his boots and tried to kill his teacher, which neurosurgeon turned new magic man Steven Strange just won’t stand for.
Whilst I can’t share a vast knowledge of Strange or his arch-nemesis, I will say that this is another great casting addition to what is sounding like one of Marvel’s most promising future projects. The most notable appearance where Ejiofor went bad was coincidentally in ex-Avengers director, Joss Whedon’s Serenity, and he was one of the highlights of the film. With that in mind, it’ll be great to see him turning evil for a change, and more importantly going up against another actor of equal talent whilst they wave their hands around until the CGI guys dress it up a bit more.
So far, that makes three impressive talents lined up for Doctor Strange and it should be more than enough to win you over. We can only wait and see what the outcome is when we go to see the Doctor in cinemas November 4, 2016.
