Awkward teenage years can be hilarious when you’re not experiencing them yourself. That’s why I’ve watched the brand new and awfully vulgar trailer for Booksmart and chuckled every single time. Do join me in the hysterics, won’t you?
Directed by Olivia Wilde in her feature film directorial debut (enough with these amazing, creative folk today, honestly!), Booksmart sees Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever as two high-level academics who see the last day of school as an opportunity to cram in everything they missed out on while they were busy studying. Joining them in the fun are Jessica Williams, Jason Sudeikis (Wilde’s husband), Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte and Mike O’Brien.
Recently screened at SXSW, the film has already gained massive praise as being a coming-of-age comedy that earns its place among the greats. Already pegged as an excellent debut from Wilde, The Playlist’s Rodrigo Perez says, “every generation needs a new anthem, and by and large, Olivia Wilde has done that with her exhilarating debut, Booksmart, that is going to absolutely destroy and dazzle audiences.” Sign me the flip up.
You can expect to get Booksmart when the film hits screens May 24.
