One has the incredible honour of being one half of the Andy’s from Hot Fuzz, the other is Oscar-nominated screenwriter of The Big Sick, which I guess is okay. Both are now set to be working with one of the most secretive agencies in the galaxy after the news that Rafe Spall and Kumail Nanjiani have signed up to star in the brand new Men in Black reboot.
If the neuralisation has worn off, you may recall that 21 Jump Street/Men In Black crossover that was in the pipeline and thankfully got lodged there. Instead, the world brought to life by chalk and cheese double-act Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith will now lead to those iconic Ray-Ban’s being passed to Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson as the new pair of partners protecting the world from the scum of the universe. Of course, facing off against alien races will be no stretch for either of them, as the two partnered up to brilliant effect in Marvel’s smash-hit entry Thor Ragnarok. Expect chemistry to be just as flawless this time around, then.
In addition to this quality quartet, Liam Neeson has also put his name down (hopefully in some Zed-like capacity) as our agents run around the busy streets of London for reasons yet unknown. Directorial duties will also be handled by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton, The Fate of the Furious), so expect a few good action scenes or ten.
The original Men in Black whilst being an integral part of the Will Smith trifecta that sent his career into the stratosphere, was also a bloody good film. Running off the incredible partnership of its leading pair, the story was a fantastic one, and tough to beat for Iron Man and (gulp) Transformers: The Last Knight scribes Matt Holloway and Art Marcum who are penning the latest instalment. We can only keep our fingers crossed that this one matches its predecessors, and if not we can always have our minds wiped again.
